Screenings, Referrals, & Support Services – Prevention Resource Center – Region 3

Screenings, Referrals, and Support Services

Texas Resources Hotline: 2-1-1

Texas 2-1-1 is a free statewide 24/7 information and referral service. The 211 center’s referral specialists receive requests from callers, access databases of resources available from private and public health and human service agencies, match callers’ needs to available resources, and link or refer callers directly to an agency or organization that can help.

FindHelp: Resource Search Tool

Formerly known as Aunt Bertha, Findhelp offers an easy way to find social services and to connect to them directly and electronically. The website has built the largest network of free and reduced-cost programs in every ZIP Code across the United States — this includes federal, state, county, municipal, and local resources in the biggest cities and smallest towns. FindHelp provides a free tool to help find food assistance, help paying bills, and other various types of free or reduced cost programs.

Outreach, Screening, Assessment, and Referral System (OSAR)

Outreach, screening, assessment, and referral (OSAR) programs are available to all persons looking for information about substance use services. OSAR programs can be the starting point for people who want help accessing substance use services and are unsure where to begin.

OSAR services are incorporated into multiple local mental health authorities (LMHAs) and local behavioral health authorities (LBHAs) and are available in several locations across the 11 Texas Health and Human Services Regions.
The only requirement for services is that a person must be currently residing in the State of Texas.

For immediate and confidential help, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, please call the OSAR in your region. Counties served by each OSAR are listed under each OSAR’s contact information. You may also request help by contacting 211 Texas or calling 877-541-7905.

Overdose Response Team (ORT)

Overview

The Overdose Response Team (ORT) is a partnership between RRC and EMS providers in Dallas, Denton, Collin, and Tarrant counties. The team conducts follow up visits with individuals who are struggling with substance use disorder, and have recently experienced an overdose within 72 hours. During these visits, clients and their households are given the opportunity to meet with a Peer Support Specialist or a Licensed Master Social Worker, receive and be trained on how to use Narcan and Fentanyl test strips, how to perform basic CPR, and ultimately discuss treatment and recovery services that are available to them, if and when they are ready.

How Can ORT Help You?

The Overdose Response Team accepts community-referrals and self-referrals in Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, and Collin counties. They work to connect people with a network of services and resources who truly care about them and want to support them through their fight against addiction. The ORT can assist with any type of substance misuse and/or addiction, including alcohol. The team recognizes that experiencing an overdose, or substance use disorder in general, is a painful, confusing, and traumatic situation for everyone involved. Their goal is to connect with individuals and assist however they can to reduce their risk of overdose and overdose death. The ORT team also understands that each individual has a unique situation, so ultimately, they ensure the provision of trauma informed care. Their hope is that their clients know that their life is worth saving. To engage with the ORT team and learn more about available resources, call and schedule an appointment to meet with them, virtually or in person.
